Fairtrade is a third party certification to ensure better prices, improved working conditions, local sustainability, and fair terms of trade for small farmer cooperative farmers and workers in the developing world.
The goal of Fairtrade Certification™ is to empower small-scale farmers organised in cooperatives, to invest in their farms and communities, protect the environment, and develop the business skills necessary to compete in the global marketplace.
Starbucks and Fairtrade
Starbucks has purchased and sold Fairtrade Certified™ coffee for nearly 11 years and is the largest buyer, roaster and distributor of Fairtrade coffee in the world.
In 2009 we doubled our purchases of Fairtrade Certified™ coffee. We share a common goal with Fairtrade – to help small farmers receive a fair price for their coffee.
Starbucks now serves 100% Fairtrade certified coffee in all our espresso beverages… that’s every latte, every cappuccino, every day. This means that every time you buy an espresso drink, you support small-scale farmers and their communities in developing countries around the world.
