Initiatives

These are some of the volunteering initiatives which our partners have been doing.

Help in Kilos

Our partners in the centre of Madrid have been collaborating in two activities; in both cases, their participation was not only measured in hours but also in weight.

On the 15th August, Peru was devastated by an earthquake measuring 7.9 on the Richter scale. Our partners volunteered to transport essential materials and take them to airport hangers to be sent on to Peru. In total 500 kg of clothes, 100 kg of medicines, 1000 torches, 600 kg of material, such as tents, pots and pans, and blankets were collected.

The second activity was Operation Kilo, through which they collected a total of 250 kg of food for kitchens and canteens all around the city!

Activities for children in the town of El Álamo

Over the course of three days, our partners at Xanadú worked hard to make the people of El Álamo smile. On the first day, armed with paint and brushes, they spent the entire afternoon painting a children’s playgroup. On the second day, they spent their time painting children’s faces and telling them stories, and on the last day, they organised games, dance classes, face painting, as well as arts and crafts activities in the town square.

Visiting the elderly and brightening up their day

Our partners in Barcelona decided to support the initiatives of an association called Amics de la gent gran which offers support to the elderly. Various coffee mornings were held, where people could get together and share their stories, memories and photos.

Supporting our city, collaborating with “Volunteers for Madrid

On the 22nd September, our partners in Madrid collaborated with the activities organised as part of the “Noche en Blanco” event, an evening dedicated to promoting culture through a series of free events and activities open to the general public. Our volunteers gave out information about the activities and helped with the organisation of events.

Another of the activities in which our partners were involved was the second Sports and Games Day held in the Arganzuela Sports Centre for 8 special education schools. A day filled with activities: workshops, juggling, gymkhanas.

And finally, don’t be surprised if you’ve seen one of our partners playing the part of a page to the Three Wise Men during Madrid’s Epiphany Parade this year, handing out sweets and excitement to children and adults alike.

Activities with children from primary schools in our neighbourhood

Our partners also organised a day of activities at the ‘Colegio Pinar del Rey’, a primary school in Madrid. All the partners were involved in the organisation of the events, entertaining the children with crafts, face painting, dance classes… It was a thoroughly Starbucks experience.

A group of volunteers also took a delicious picnic to children at the ‘Colegio Gonzalo Labora’ primary school.

Collaborating with the ‘Drop of Milk’ programme in Seville

12 of our partners from Seville took a delicious breakfast to children at 4 primary schools around the city this Christmas. In total, they served up 200 breakfasts in just one day, a unique experience for our partners and also for the children.
